Temperament | 氣質

Temperament 韋氏詞典定義為：the usual attitude, mood, or behavior of a person or animal （人或動物一貫的態度、情緒或行為）。中文一般譯為「氣質」、「性情」。

古代希臘人認為人體包含四種體液：血液、黏液、黃膽汁和黑膽汁。四種體液的不同混合方式，決定了人的情緒和性格。而temperament的拉丁文詞源意思就是「混合」。

美國總統選舉的首場辯論會上，兩黨的候選人不僅在經濟、安全等議題上唇槍舌劍，而且還在氣質問題上互相指責。

接近尾聲的時候，川普宣稱：「我有贏的氣質。我知道怎麼贏。」(I have a winning temperament. I know how to win.)

這話出自脾氣火爆、放言無忌的川普，著實有點讓人意外。

柯林頓反唇相譏：「一個會被一條推文激怒的人，不應該讓他的手指接近核武器密碼。」(A man who can be provoked by a tweet should not have his fingers anywhere near the nuclear codes.)

關於川普的氣質，《紐約時報》文章《獨一無二的辯論：柯林頓川普如何「互撕」》這樣說：

「川普在此次辯論中有一個重要任務：開始讓更多選民相信，他具有擔當最高統帥所需要的能力和氣質。對傳統候選人而言，這是一個相對比較容易跨越的門檻，但鑒於川普曾以帶有煽動性和侮辱性的言辭談論拉美裔、女性、穆斯林、殘疾人以及其他群體，這便成了他面臨的重大障礙。」


「Trump had one major task in the debate: to start persuading more voters that he has the competence and temperament to be commander in chief. That is a relatively low bar for a traditional nominee to pass, but a critical one for Trump given his history of making inflammatory and insulting comments about Hispanics, women, Muslims, people with disabilities and other groups.」
